Robinhood Chain Gas Fees Surge 82‑Fold in 11 Days, Outpacing All Major Blockchains

Users paid $4.45 million to transact on the network on Sept. 2, more than Ethereum, Solana and Tron combined, after the base fee rose 23 times off its 0.02 gwei floor. Robinhood absorbs the cost inside its own wallet app until Sept. 29.

Robinhood Chain’s gas fees exploded in early September, reaching $4.45 million in a single day—more than the combined gas fees of Ethereum, Solana, Tron and several other major networks. The spike was driven by a surge in memecoin activity and a base fee that climbed 23 × above the chain’s minimum price.

Gas Fees Jump 82‑Fold in Less Than Two Weeks

According to DefiLlama data, gas fees on Sept. 2 were up 18.8 % from the previous day and 82 × higher than the $54,254 recorded on Aug. 22. The chain collected $12.44 million in gas over the past seven days, representing two‑thirds of the $18.45 million earned since its mainnet launch on July 1.

Base Fee Dynamics

The chain enforces a minimum gas price of 0.02 gwei (20 million wei). After Aug. 23 the median base fee rose above this floor, reaching 0.467 gwei on Sept. 3—23 × the minimum. Intraday peaks exceeded 5 gwei, making a typical transaction cost roughly $3.40 at peak rates.

Transaction Volume and Gas Consumption

Transaction count grew about 36 % over the same period, while average execution gas per transaction rose from under a cent to about $0.32. Gas consumption averaged 36.9 million gas per second, up from 13.2 million on Aug. 21‑22. Blocks now carry an average of 13.97 transactions (up from 9.96), with each transaction using 105 % more gas.

Robinhood’s Fee‑Absorption Offer

Robinhood continues to cover network fees for swaps executed inside its wallet app for trades above $0.50, with the promotion running until 11:59 PM EST on Sept. 29. The offer excludes wallet‑to‑wallet transfers, bridge transactions, third‑party wallets, and dapp‑browser activity.

Key Protocols Driving Fees

  • Pons V2 launchpad generated $6.09 million in fees over 24 hours and $26.33 million over seven days.
  • Uniswap V4 collected $6.65 million in a single day.
  • Trading bot GMGN contributed $2.65 million.
  • Uniswap V3 added $870,480.

DEX volume on Robinhood Chain reached $1.55 billion over 24 hours, while total value locked stood at $819.6 million.

Fee Structure and Revenue Sharing

Gas accounted for 23.3 % of total fees on Sept. 2, up from 2.5 % on Aug. 22. Robinhood retained $4.01 million of the day’s gas fees after allocating a 10 % share to the Arbitrum Expansion Program—8 % to the Arbitrum DAO treasury and 2 % to development funding.

Governance and Capacity Constraints

Robinhood Chain’s parameters are overseen by an eight‑member Security Council (Robinhood holds two seats; BitGo, Chainlink Labs, Fireblocks Trust Company, Offchain Labs, Paxos, and Talos each hold one). Routine changes require six approvals and a seven‑day timelock; emergency actions need seven approvals.

Market Context

Robinhood Chain has overtaken several established networks in daily application revenue and active users, ranking second by DEX volume at the start of September and surpassing Base in daily active users three weeks after launch.
