Securitize Shares Jump Over 15% After SEC Issues Innovation Exemption for Tokenized Stocks

Securitize (SECZ) stock rose more than 15% following the SEC's five‑year Innovation Exemption, which allows tokenized securities venues to operate without registering as exchanges.

Securitize (SECZ) shares surged more than 15% on Friday, extending a sharp recovery as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) opened a new legal pathway for tokenized stock trading.

SEC Innovation Exemption

On September 17, the SEC issued a five‑year Innovation Exemption that lets venues trading tokenized securities operate without registering as an exchange. The exemption also relieves certain liquidity providers from dealer registration when they supply tokenized stock to automated market maker (AMM) pools. SEC Chair Paul Atkins described the exemption as a temporary bridge while the commission evaluates further actions to facilitate on‑chain trading.

Impact on Securitize

Securitize, which provides infrastructure for real‑world asset tokenization and acts as transfer agent for BlackRock’s tokenized BUIDL fund, saw its stock trade at $16.53 after the news. The shares are up 77% over the past five trading days and 158% over the past month.

Company Background

Securitize went public on the NYSE in July through a merger with Cantor Equity Partners II. On the same day, it tokenized $295 million of its own shares on Solana and Avalanche, marking the largest issuer‑sponsored tokenized stock launch on record. The company’s six‑month, year‑to‑date, and one‑year returns are all near 50%.

Outlook

Regulatory clarity removes a key obstacle for tokenization platforms, but investor demand and consistent profitability remain uncertain factors that could influence the sustainability of the rally.
