Taurus links tokenization platform to Swift ledger for bank‑issued tokenized deposits

Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus has connected its tokenization and custody platforms to Swift’s blockchain‑based shared ledger, giving financial institutions a route to use bank‑issued tokenized deposits for round‑the‑clock cross‑border payments.

Taurus announced that its custody and tokenisation solutions are now integrated with Swift’s blockchain‑based shared ledger. The connection enables banks to move bank‑issued tokenised deposits across borders 24/7 while keeping the underlying funds on the issuing bank’s balance sheet.

How the integration works

The integration links Swift smart contracts with Taurus‑CAPITAL and Taurus‑PROTECT on clients’ permissioned blockchain infrastructure. Taurus‑CAPITAL handles issuance and management of tokenised money, whereas Taurus‑PROTECT provides programmable wallets, key‑management, governance rules and API‑based automation.

Infrastructure options for banks

  • Banks without their own blockchain can use a managed Hyperledger Besu environment supplied by Taurus.
  • Institutions that already run Besu or another EVM‑compatible node can connect Taurus’s tokenisation and wallet tools directly.
  • Existing Taurus customers can extend their production infrastructure to include Swift ledger connectivity within days.

Timeline and early activity

First client connections are expected within days, with initial distributed‑ledger transactions planned within weeks. Swift’s ledger has already processed a live cross‑border transaction between Standard Chartered and HSBC.

Broader context

Swift’s shared ledger, launched in July after nine months of development, acts as an orchestration layer that coordinates tokenised‑deposit transfers before final settlement through existing payment systems. Over 40 financial institutions participated in designing the system, and the Swift network connects more than 11,500 institutions across 200+ markets.

Tokenised deposits differ from stablecoins because the underlying cash remains on the commercial bank’s books and is subject to banking regulation. The model allows banks to issue their own tokenised deposits while using a common blockchain layer for inter‑bank payments, extending availability to nights and weekends.

Taurus’s broader digital‑asset stack

Beyond the Swift connection, Taurus offers custody, tokenisation, blockchain connectivity and staking services. Recent additions include institutional staking via P2P.org (covering Ethereum, Solana, Polkadot, Cosmos, NEAR, Cardano and Tezos) and expansion of Taurus‑CAPITAL to Solana.

Clients cited include State Street, Deutsche Bank, Santander and CACEIS. Deutsche Bank backed Taurus in a $65 million funding round and collaborates on its crypto‑custody infrastructure.
